Alumni Successes

For us, when a dog finds the forever home that it has been waiting for, it is a major success. Here are some of the dogs that we have placed recently.

Georgia

Hi Patti,
We adopted Georgia from you about 4 years ago. She's still doing well - a happy and thriving member of our family! We live in North Carolina now with our two 3 year old girls. Here's an updated picture.
Best regards,
Kristie

Scout

Hi Patti,
We adopted Scout (formerly Otis) in fall 2005 and he quickly became part of the family. He's a beaglador 'triever and has filled out to about 55 lbs. Scout enjoys walks, visits to the dog park, protecting the yard from invading rabbits, tug-of-war and playing in the snow.

At least one member of the family enjoyed the Dec snow storm.

Logan

Hi! I just wanted to drop you a note and let you know that I still have Logan (formally known as buscuit). I got him from you about nine years ago. He had lots of brothers and sisters too. He is very active still and healthy. He has a very smart dog and very attached to me. We have had a lot of fun over the years.

Thanks so much for all you do!

I hope all is well with you!

Happy New Year!

Lacy and Logan

Abby

Dear Patti,

Twink, Now Abby (Abigail Constantine Napoleanne Von Wiggles Shtinklestine) a Min Pin, Jack Russell & Chihuahua Mix that won our hearts is living the good life. She has a big brother Monte the Lab and one of her many jobs is keeping him in line..at least that what she thinks. They both come to work with me everyday and always look forward to riding in the car.
She is happy, spoiled and must sit on any lap available...or on the couch, bed etc...
She is our first small dog after many many years of 70lb+ dogs and what they say is true! Little dog BIG personality, she rules the roost and brings us much joy. True to her Jack Russell roots she is a good digger and mouser.
We are so glad we found her at RAWL, not a day goes by that she does not make us laugh.
Cheers to you and everyone at RAWL!

Juni

Hello, again. We adopted a wonderful pit/basenji mix from RAWL in June 2008, and she's been a real joy to everyone in our family. I feel a little guilty that I haven't sent an update/thank you since she came home with us from the Gainsville Petsmart at an adoption event over a year ago. My husband, the self-described non-dog lover, is best friends and a constant companion of Juni (formerly known as Jesse). Juni is great with my 86-year-old mother, who insists on trying to teach Juni to "talk." We have been to Canada twice with Juni, and to many bed and breakfasts and hotels in the east and Midwest. In fact, a place we usually stay in Indiana always greets Juni by name before they say hello to us. Juni is a terrific traveler and loves to meet new people and animals. I just wanted you to know that she found a good home and that we all truly love her and wouldn't have missed having her as part of our family for the world. Thank you also for the terrific work you continue to do rescuing animals. Attached is a picture of June we took in August while on vacation in Wisconsin.
Best wishes ---Donna and Paul Goble

Lewis & Amos

Hi Patti,

Well, it’s been a while and we just wanted to let you know that the two fellows we adopted from RAWL (Lewis and Amos) are doing great. Lewis is easily the laziest dog on earth, but he takes his job very seriously (making sure no one moves the couch). To his credit, he’s also a volunteer with Fairfax Pets on Wheels, visiting residents at the Virginian nursing home.

Amos is the lover of the family, always looking for a cuddle. The dog that we thought would be about 40 lbs is now 75! Thanks so much for these two great additions to the family.

Sheppy

(July 2008)

Hi Patti,

Here is a picture of Moses, now Sheppy. We adopted him 5 years ago, his birthday was in June. He was one of a litter of four. He is so sweet and mild mannered. He is half chow half Sheltie. He is also very timid and loves to chase the squirrels and he likes to stay in the house. He once chased a deer and brought in a deer leg into the house and his human sisters screamed and I had to get rid of it. He eats food only bought at Booth Feeds and table scraps. After the pet food recall, and an extensive research on pet food, I have found that 90% of the pet food on the market today is pure garbage without nutrients and I did not want to feed garbage to our wonderful Sheppy. Also, I have found that pets are being over-vaccinated with boosters and the garbage pet food combined with over-vaccination causes numerous diseases in our beloved pets.

He does not look too happy in this picture because I did not make him his eggs and toast! He is so smart. He knows beforehand if he is getting a home cooked meal or cereal. In short, he is one spoiled, healthy dog and we love him!

Lancelot

Hi Patty,

Do you ever wonder what happened to the 9 month old black Lab & German Shepherd cross who that you picked up from the Front Royal Animal Shelter & had neutered for us? The Front Royal Animal Shelter named him “George,” but you re-named him “Dana?” Well, as you can see from the attached pictures, he’s become one of the best, smartest & lovable dogs we’ve ever had!

Even as a giant puppy, since he took it upon himself to guard our 3 cats, we re-named him Lancelot, Lance for short. After bringing Lance home, we had a full house with 4 large dogs, 3 cats, 15+ goats, and 11 horses. Of course that all changed last November, when I found a frail & freezing 8 month old Lab / Pit Bull with a broken hip that someone had abandoned in a field near our house.

Of course I couldn’t give Patsy away with a broken hip, or until we also paid to have her spayed, but after she won our hearts with her kindness & affection to the dogs & cats she also became part of our growing family. You can see Patsy & Dax (Great Dane / Catahoula cross) napping on our front porch.

As it turned out, since our other 3 older male dogs weren’t interested in playing puppy games with Lance day in & day out, Lance & Patsy have become the best thing that ever happened to each other! Although he’s twice her size, weighing in at a mere 130 Lbs., Lance is ever so gentle when rough-housing with Patsy and even lets her win most of the time.

It’s funny how well things can work out! Anyway, Margaret & I just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate you & Erika bringing us together with Lance. – All the best, Greg

PS (Let us know the next time you have an adoption somewhere & we’ll bring Lance so people can see how great your dogs are! ;-)
